I have been told...he thinks it is the Mother Board...that he (the IT guy) is 90% sure that is what it is and that I would not lose any data if that is the problem. It is still under warranty, I guess I will be making a run to CompUSA tonight.

I am pretty sure with a motherboard you lose everything. Oh dear.
No, the motherboard doesn't affect the Hard Drive. Even so, if it has for some reason he said I can try to "slave" it to another PC an recover anything. :) I am choosing the happy side of things right now.
Just don't have false happy. I have had my motherboard fail and got it changed and lot everything. I would hate for you to lose those pictures.
You shouldn't lose it but some people really don't care about it and would not secure your pics. Make sure they know the importance of the situation.
